Kasturba Medical College

Kasturba Medical College is one of the private colleges of higher learning in Karnataka, India. It was established in 1953. In the English language, its motto is inspired by Life. This college is also recognized as KMC.

History of Kasturba Medical College

Early Years:

In 1953, KMC formed as a distinct institution with a clinical section at Manipal & in Mangalore at Wenlock Hospital. Manipal and Mangalore were a component of the primarily Madras State.

The government of Madras donated a land area to form a college. Also, it allowed the use of government hospitals for Training Medical Students. This college became part of the prolonged Mysore State in 1956 when the name was changed to Karnataka.

Separation:

In 1969, the Clinical program started at Manipal with the setting up of Kasturba Hospital. Later, these colleges were divided with the formation of a Pre-Clinical section in Mangalore. Now, KMC in Mangalore is attached to 3 Government Hospitals. It was the initial medical institution in India to be established.

Affiliation with Public Universities:

They were associated with public universities in Karnataka from the year of its establishment. These colleges were affiliated to Karnatak University from their foundation and to Mysore University.

Deemed University:

KMC in Manipal and Mangalore were granted the Deemed University Status in 1993 to structure the MAHE (Manipal Academy of Higher Education). KMC Mangalore agreed to form Super Specialty Hospital It extended its partnership with the government of Karnataka for the next 33 years.

This campus is in Manipal in the village of Udupi. It is on the campus of MAHE. It has a large Health Sciences Library. Also, it has a Museum of Anatomy & Pathology.

Mangalore

This campus is in Mangalore. It is divided into the Centre for Basic Sciences at Bejai and the main campus at Light House Hill Road. It includes almost 6 Teaching Hospitals and the TMA Pai Convention Centre. Also, it has a big Indoor Sports Complex

Admission to Kasturba Medical College

KM C gives admission to the 250 Students in each of the MBBS bachelor courses. Candidates are chosen on the National Eligibility Entrance Test managed by the National Testing Agency.

At its Mangalore campus, 20% of the MBBS seats are reserved for Karnataka candidates. Admissions to Postgraduate are based on the rank gained in NEET (Postgraduate). Admissions to other courses are based on the score gained in the Manipal Entrance Test which are:
