Colorado was one of 131 colleges and universities to participate in the V-12 Navy College Training Program during World War II. In 1878, Mary Rippon was the first female professor at CU.

It has many residence halls situated all over the campus and are also in a separate area which is known as Williams Village. Williams Village is almost 1.5 miles far from the main campus.

CU has a free bus service that moved students from Williams Village to the main campus.  Norlin Library was opened in 1904, and the old library was changed into a theatre and classrooms. In 1923, Macky Auditorium was opened. In 1953, President Robert Stearns University Memorial Center opened its doors.
