Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Guangxu Emperor founded the Nanyang Public School in 1896, for the Telegraphs and Business office of the imperial government. These four schools were established, normal school, school of foreign studies, middle school, and high school.

History

Guangxu Emperor Founder of the university became the first President who proposed the idea of Mandarin. Later the school to Imperial Polytechnic College of Commerce in 1905 and once again changed the name to Government Institute of Technology of the Communications Ministry.

China’s government merged two schools and founded the School of Management Nan Yang College of Chiao Tung. America attempted to negotiate with a coalition government because the Chinese Communist Party and Kuomintang had no trust in each other which resulted in failure.

Chiao Tung lost its National appellation and became Chiao Tung University because the socialist state changed all universities to be public and renamed the University as Jiao Tong University.

Campus

In Xujiahui in the district of Shanghai, the previous main campus was located a site of several educational institutions and mostly catholic areas. The main gate built in 1935 with approaches via a series of marble bridges, reflects the traditional Chinese style of the earlier status as the Imperial Polytechnic College.

The construction of the campus continued continuously last century including the gymnasium, administrative building, middle College building, and more buildings.

Research

The China Institute for Urban Governance was established with SJTU the Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal’s People’s Government. We produced a series of achievements, including urban innovation and quality development by covering five research fields and also launched a series of theoretical research works and practical research works

History of the Museum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Shanghai Jiao Tong University was inaugurated in 1996 in celebration of the university’s anniversary and upgraded in 2016.
